Tiské Stěny

Tiské Stěny — the "Tisá Walls" — rise abruptly out of the forest near the village of Tisá in North Bohemia, close to the German border. They are part of the same sandstone plateau that formed the more famous Bohemian Switzerland National Park just to the north, but the walls themselves sit outside the park and feel like a much more intimate, less-visited version of the same landscape.

The rocks are arranged as two connected labyrinths — Malé and Velké Stěny (Small and Large Walls) — where narrow sandy passages twist between towers up to 30 metres high. Ferns cover the cool corners; sunlight only reaches the floor of the passages for a few minutes each day. Local climbers have used these walls for over a century, and the setting is so cinematic that scenes from The Chronicles of Narnia were filmed here.

A well-marked circular trail (roughly 3 km, 2 hours) leads through both labyrinths with ladders, wooden stairs and a small entrance fee at the ticket booth in Tisá. The route is family-friendly but not stroller-friendly, and it can be muddy after rain.

Getting there: Around 1 h 45 min by car from Prague via the D8, then a short drive from Děčín. By public transport, take the train to Děčín and a local bus to Tisá — about 3 hours door to door.

Practical tip: Come on a weekday morning, wear proper shoes with grip, and pair Tiské Stěny with an afternoon in Bohemian Switzerland or Děčín for a full day out.
