Reopened after a seven-year renovation, the National Museum's main building on Wenceslas Square is now one of the most impressive interiors in the city — a grand marble hall beneath a glass dome, worth visiting for the architecture alone, with natural history and history exhibits filling the wings.

A compact, unflinching look at four decades of Czechoslovak communist rule, told through propaganda posters, reconstructed shop interiors and a genuinely unsettling secret police interrogation room replica. It runs about an hour and adds real context to anything else you see in the city.

Housed in a converted factory in a quiet residential district, DOX is where Prague's contemporary art scene actually lives — rotating exhibitions, a massive airship-shaped installation space, and none of the queues you'll find in the historic center.

Equal parts museum and playground, with an upside-down room, optical illusions and interactive exhibits that sound gimmicky on paper and turn out to be genuinely fun, even for visitors who came in skeptical. It's a good option for a rainy afternoon or for breaking up a day with kids.

Most museums are closed on Mondays — check before you plan a museum-heavy day. The Prague Card (a multi-attraction pass) can be worth it if you're planning to visit three or more paid sights in a short trip.
